What Is Fish Feed Extrusion Process?

The commercial fish feed extrusion process involves cooking a blend of feed ingredients rapidly under high temperature, humidity, and pressure using a fish feed extrusion machine. The elevated temperature is achieved through either friction (dry extrusion) or pre-treatment and steam infusion (wet extrusion). Extrusion, as a method, enables the processing of diverse fish feed ingredients, including soybeans, corn, rice, peas, and materials with high moisture content. The fish feed extruding process can be categorized into two types based on the raw material's moisture content: dry extruding and wet extruding.

In the dry extrusion process, friction-generated heat is employed to elevate the material's temperature, compelling it to pass through the die hole while attaining a specific pressure through screw extrusion. Upon exiting the die hole, the material experiences a rapid pressure drop, leading to water evaporation and achieving the desired extrusion effect. The water content is consistently maintained at approximately 15% to 20% throughout this process.

In the wet extrusion process, the principle mirrors that of dry extrusion but involves the addition of water and steam to raise the moisture level to over 20%, and in some cases, even 30%. This is essential as the material's temperature elevation relies on the introduction of steam.
